Batik

I've seen a couple of very good uses
of batik fabrics lately
so I thought I had better show you
the range of batik fabric that
it in stock at the moment.

Plenty to choose from.

I would like to wish everyone a very happy
and safe new year.
If you can watch some fireworks,
a definite favourite of mine.

I'm giving myself a weekend off.
So the shop will be closed from 12 noon
on Saturday and not open again until 9 am
on Wednesday January 2nd.
See you then.

Almost time

My next big project is
STAR A DAY
one 3'' lemoyne star everyday for one year.
I have a start date planned.
But I must finish the peace cranes first.

This is the fabric I have chosen for the
background of the stars, after a few
different fabrics being in the running.
I love it.
Time to wash and press it then back to work on the cranes.

Peace Cranes

I feel like I've not touched the
 sewing machine for so long.
But finally I'm back to the
peace cranes.

The rows are together.
With the heat of the next few days,
the air conditioner and sewing machine
will be running hot.
Hopefully the sashings will be together
and the peace cranes will look a bit
more like a quilt.

Friendship

In an evening class at Stanford University, the last lecture was on the

mind-body connection, the relationship between stress and disease.

The speaker said that one of the best things a man could do for his

health is to be married, whereas one of the best things a woman could

do for her health was to nurture her friendships with her girlfriend.

Women connect with each other differently, provide support that can

help each other deal with stress and difficult life experiences.

Physically this  "girlfriend time" helps to create more Serotonin,

a neurotransmitter that helps combat depression and can create

a feeling of well being. This is a VERY GOOD thing for

our health.

So every time we sit and sew with your friends,

pat yourself on the back and congratulate yourself

for doing something good for your health

We are very very lucky.

Christmas stitching

Melbourne Cup is over for another year.
No winner picked again, but I was a fun day,
and the rain held off long enough.

So it's time to start thinking Christmas.
I'm not a fan of the rush of the silly
season but I do enjoy some Christmas stitching.

I do have some lovely small [and larger]
Christmas project in the shop at the moment,
get started before it does become
the mad rush of the silly season.

Sorry no pictures, blogger and I are not
talking to each other at the moment [once again]

Catch up

A bit of a catch up on what I've been sewing,
or at least playing with.
ALL of the peace cranes are finally finished.
I've enjoyed making them, but they do take a long time.

Next came the placement of the blocks,
this also take me a long time.
Can't have two that are similar together,
or even close.

Then the cutting of  sashing, cornerstones and borders.
Some blue and some assorted asian fabrics,
again I had to have a good variety of colours and prints.
A new cutting blade makes all the difference,
why do we leave it so long between changes.

Now just to get to the sewing machine,
sounds easy.

10 Good Reasons

10 Good Reasons To Buy Fabric

1.      It insulates the cupboard where it is kept
2.     It keeps the economy moving. It is my duty
to support cotton farmers, textile mills and
quilt shops.
3.     It is less expensive and more fun than
psychiatric care.
4.     I'm participating in a contest - the one who dies
with the most fabric wins.
5.     It keeps without refrigeration, you don't have to
cook it to enjoy it you never have to feed it,
change it, wipe its nose or walk it.
6.     Because I'm worth it.
7.     Like dust, it's good for protecting previous
empty spaces in the house, like the ironing
board, the laundry basket and the dining room
table.
8.     It's not immoral, illegal or fattening. It calms the
nerves, gratifies the soul and  makes me feel
good.
9.     Because it's on sale.
9.     Buy it now before your husband retires and goes
with you on all your shopping trips.

Charity Quilts

Ruth and Margot have been very busy
making quilts for the Corowa Hospital Nursing Home.

This is one that I have quilted

and this is another.

I've lots count of how many quilts these two
busy ladies have made.
Pactchworkers are just the nicest people,
giving up so much of their time, energy
and fabric for so many worth while
causes.

Long Weekend

It's lovely to have a break, a little extra time for

Pinning the next hand quilting project, but
 I won't start stitching
until next winter. Finally the weather have changed
for the better, and it is getting a little warm to be sitting
under a quilt.
Some gardening happened.
I even did some house work, I don't have pictures
but the kitchen drawers are a [little] bit
neater
Finally  the last of the peace cranes are together.
Time to get serious about sashing and borders.

Challenge

Don't forget ladies it's less than
3 weeks until the A4 challenge is due for
show and tell. I've had a sneak peek
at a couple and I'm [once again] amazed
at the different ideas people have.

Speaking of challenges, remember these,
and
Sampler Quilt With A Difference.
November 10th
is show and tell day for our quilt tops,
or maybe finished quilts.
Don't forget what a great display a group of
these would make at our quilt show.

Tell me this won't happen to us!!!!!

Three sisters aged 92, 94 and 96 live in a house together.

One night the 96 year old draws a bath. She puts her foot in and pauses.

She yells to the other sisters, "Was I getting in or out of the bath?"

The 94 year old yells back, "I don't know. I'll come up and see."

She starts up the stairs and pauses "Was I going up the stairs or down?"

The 92 year old is sitting at the kitchen table having tea listening to her sisters.

She shakes her head and says, "I sure hope I never get that forgetful," she knocks on wood.

She then yells, "I'll come up and help both of you as soon as I see who's at the door."

Favorites

This week I ould like to show you
my current range of favorite
fabrics. I'd like to do something
with all of them.
of course the red is my favorite
favorite, but the grey and black
are also making me think
about what project I could use them in.
Maybe this could work.
I've been a little bit hooked on
shoo fly since we did it in the
''sampler quilt with a difference''
a few months ago.

Not a lot of sewing this week,
busy with unbloggy things.
But I do have a finish.
The mystery quilt that we did a few months ago

my quilt finished before now but better
later than never.

I am having sooooo much trouble uploading
photos, You will just have to trust me, It is finished
and I am very pleased with the feather
border.
I need a young person to sort out this
 photo/computer/blogger problem for me.

Friday, August 31

A bit of everything

This weeks sewing have been not much of anything
but a little of lots.
starting with the usual 4 peace cranes,
getting close to the end of making cranes,
then on to sashings and corner stones.
But not quite yet.
Then out came the tumbling blocks again.
Slowly growing.
A little bit of machine quilting of the
mystery quilt.
A bit of hand quilting.
Finished the cross hatched applique
border and started on the 2 small borders
then onto the outer half square triangle pieced
border.
A finish. Only a small one.
A knitted scarf.
A little bit of getting ahead of myself.
Marking a quilt for hand quilting with a stencil
I got at the quilt and craft fair back in July.
My next project.
