A bit of everything

This weeks sewing have been not much of anything
but a little of lots.
starting with the usual 4 peace cranes,
getting close to the end of making cranes,
then on to sashings and corner stones.
But not quite yet.
Then out came the tumbling blocks again.
Slowly growing.
A little bit of machine quilting of the
mystery quilt.
A bit of hand quilting.
Finished the cross hatched applique
border and started on the 2 small borders
then onto the outer half square triangle pieced
border.
A finish. Only a small one.
A knitted scarf.
A little bit of getting ahead of myself.
Marking a quilt for hand quilting with a stencil
I got at the quilt and craft fair back in July.
My next project.

Wide Backs

After a bit of a hiccup or two I finally have
some new wide backs to show you.
32 new wide backs

two different prints
this one is almost floral
so many great colours

and this print is more leaves.
Of course I have a favourite, the deep red
with the leaf print,
perfect for the back of my new york beauty,
how is that for getting ahead of myself.
Not one block finished yet and I'm already
thinking about the backing.

Pattern Errors

Most of us would be aware of this issue of
"Australian patchwork and quilting''
with Kim Simpson's quilt on the cover.

While flicking though I came across a lovely
reproduction of an antique red and white quilt.
One day I would love to make one. The only way I
am going to get an [almost] antique quilt.
BUT the instructions are wrong.
to read what can happen

Yes errors can happen and for a variety of reasons,
from purchased patterns, books, or magazines.
The best we can do is make a test block,
yes it takes time and fabric but it can
save a lot of tears and frustration when things don't
go as planned.

50 Shades of Grey

That's the colour of our sky
from almost clear to almost black.
Sooo over winter
only one thing to do,
stay in and sew

I've started to hand quilt the applique
border of m medallion quilt.
Starting to become such a long way
around now
One the machine this week I've been playing with
fabric baskets.Quilt as you go fun.

Great for storage.
Wool at the moment, but who knows in the future.

Only 3 peace cranes this week, don't know why
maybe I forgot how to count.

I have started to quilt the mystery quilt.
Quite a large quilt so this could take awhile.
A little every day and hopefully it will be done before I
realise.

11 degrees

Our expected top temperature for today is
rain and 11 degrees, any wonder I'm
inside stitching. Spring is supposed to be on it's way,
but I don't feel it.

This weeks stitching has been,
some more hand quilting of my medallion quilt,
still enjoying being under a warm quilt in the
evening.
on the machine, I've done another 4 peace cranes,
getting closer to the end, thinking about cutting
sashings and corner stones.
But so many blocks could make the layout
a bit of a challenge.
Another finish
The Sampler Quilt
"with a difference"
is finished, quilted and bound with a hanging sleeve.
Getting ready for the quilt show next year.
Can't show the front yet,
show and tell is in November. Amazed that I'm
so far ahead of time.

Dear Jane finished.
18 months to hand piece,
then a little rest in the cupboard,
 so about a year.
[ I was sooo over it]
But when I started to hand quilt, I really enjoyed
to journey.
Now I just have to think of her own name.

The back. Just love this fabric.

At sewing I did get to see Helen's quilt
Our mystery quilt from a couple of months
ago, all finished ready for her
grand-daughter. In pink and brown.
Beautiful
.
Anna started a quilt for a gift
that have to be finished by the 4th of

Arctic Blast

This freezing cold snap we are living through
at the moment is good for only one thing.
Staying inside and sewing.
So this week I have,
4 peace cranes.
A set of coasters, quilt as you go, nesting
hexagons.
Finished another pair of socks.
Just love finishing.
I've pulled out a quilt top that has been in the
cupboard for quite some time.
I am enjoying being snuggled under a quilt
again, and hand quilting.

One of the new fabrics that is in store is called
swiss chocolate.
delicious name and delicious fabric.

I still have plenty to unpack.
The range of quilters muslins has
also been extended to over 70 different

Sneak peek

Dear Jane is FINISHED.
Binding and sleeve completed ready to hang, here is a tiny
sneak peek.

Just a little look, more later.
I'm thinking with one major finish
there should be more, so the next project to
be tackled could be the peace quilt.

so another 4 blocks this week,
or maybe I could start something new!

One the train to Melbourne [to the quilt show]
I finished knitting some socks

or maybe I should finish the other pair of socks
I have on the go.
