Mystery quilt show and tell

Show and tell revealed some of the mystery quilts from

last month finished. WOW. No stopping some

ladies.

Always great to see the different colour combinations.

Almost look like different patterns.

Shannah's quilt top together.

Ruth's completed quilt.

And Julie's quilt, binding finished just in

time for show and tell. Well done with the quilting,

you've done a great job. Hard to believe she is so new to

 patchwork and quilting.

Not much sewing this week

My sewing this week has been a little bit of hand quilting

of dear jane,

and two peace cranes, that's it. Not much I know but I

have been cutting lots.

Getting ready for our 10 am to 10 pm

sewing day/night on Saturday.

2 charity quilts

some red and white for my very neglected

new york beauty

some [lots] of cranes

and even some bindings. Yes getting ahead of myself

but one day soon they will be needed.

I don't know how mush sewing will get done on Saturday

but I am organized and hopeful.

 Monday night Chris and I headed to Beechworth for the

opening of the ''Fabric and fibre awards''.

If you have a chance it's well worth the drive,

 very interesting to see what some

people can do.

I love the stuffed animal heads especially the felt teeth on the bear.

Grey Winter Days

We need some colour to brighten up these

cold wet winter days we are having at the moment.

These cushions might just do the trick.

Inspired by Ricky Timms,and some bright

tie dyed fabric.

Or perhaps you have a more traditional taste,

very easy panels, no thinking required.

Lucky Dip

Thanks to Chris. We all received a lucky dip bag with our

final block for our sampler quilt with a difference.

Each containing an extra block pattern.

My block is bow ties. In either 3" or 4",

 I chose to make mine in a crazy tiny  3", nothing like

a challenge.

Chris has also spent many hours creating

a lovely label for us to use on our quilts.

Best get on to finishing this quilt before I misplace

mt lovely label.

The Peace Quilt

This weeks blocks

I thought I would share the story of the

peace quilt with you, this is what inspired me

to make this quilt.

A young Japanese girl called Sadako Sasaki, who lived in Hiroshima. She was only 2 years old when the bomb was dropped on her city.Sadako grew into a healthy, active girl, a champion runner for her school. But radiation can wreak deadly effects for many years after it release, and Sadako was diagnosed with leukemia when she was 11. She spent many months in hospital before she died in 1955 at age 12. While she was in hospital, Sadako began folding paper cranes because, according to Japanese story, a wish will come true if you fold a thousand paper cranes. Her wish to be well did not come true, and some of her cranes lined her burial casket, others were given to Sadoko's friends. Her classmates decided to create a memorial to Sadoko. A collection was begun, culminating in a statue in the Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima, which was unveiled in 1958. At the top of the memorial is the figure of a girl holding up a large crane. Thus folded paper cranes came to symbolise the desire for peace in the world. I have since found out that almost 12000 Australian soldiers were sent into Hiroshima after the atom bomb was dropped, these forgotten soldiers are also my reason for making this quilt.

New Fabric

I have just unpacked some new fabric.

The range is called  "High Tea", very nice.

I love the purples, my mind is jumping from one idea

to the next. If it settles on one it might mean

another quilt. Perhaps something from the

sampler quilt.

Whirigig

The last block for our "sampler quilt with a dfference"

Whirigig
A 6" block that is so much fun, just like a
pinwheel within a pinwheel.
We have all the blocks now so its time to
be putting our quilt tops together.
Even though its taking lots  some thought
mine is coming together. Looking forward to
show and tell in November.
