Check this out

I was not looking forward to this job.
At all!

But what a difference,
I now have space to work and make the next mess.
I have a few more farmers wife blocks
to cut, and sashing and corner stones,

The cupboard
I can hardly believe this.
All boxes have a purpose,
mostly holding fabric, projects, patterns or books.
And the door shuts.

My fabric diet is slowly starting to show.
I have an empty box.

Now that I have space I don't have any excuse
not to get back to quilting my
new york beauty

as for sewing, the Folly has come out.
It now has a corner only three more to go,
and all the triangles in between.

Finish

I love big stitch quilting
Gives a great result quickly,
and so soft.
A few weeks ago I marked a simple fan design
on this quilt

here it is in the quilting frame

quilting finished,
scrappy binding sewn on

binding hand stitched to the back.
All finished
Just a label to do

Ta Dah
not a great shot but it was late at night
so photo had to be indoors

I tried for a close up of the quilting

Other activities for the week include
new walking shoes
these have already had quite a workout
as I am currently walking about 25km a week

a job that is certainly not a favorite
mending curtains

and something that really must to done during the week
Tidy this mess.
I mean properly
Not shove into the cupboard and slam the door close quickly.
Hope I get some stitching time

farmers wife

I have mentioned that I have started the
farmers wife quilt.
another sampler quilt
6 inch finished blocks
111 of them for the queen size quilt,
that is what I am aiming for.
83 x 103 inches finished.
That is quite long, so I thought I would change the lay out
to make mine approximately 93 inches square.
235 cm, quite a large quit
I would then need a total of 113 blocks.

I have been stitching away on these blocks without much
thought or fuss,
but this morning I had a count.
91 blocks finished

A whole box of blocks.
only 20 to go.
If I do change the layout (which I think I will do)
only 22 to go.

The pattern book only has 111 block patterns,
so I get to make up 2 of my own.

I was surprised that I had done so many, and so quickly,
this has only been a little winter project in between quilting.
If I got some stitched that is good, if not it didn't matter, maybe I
should think of all quilts this way.

Back to quilting,
Star a day is quilted, now just to do the binding.
First I have to find the binding fabric,
which I put away in a very safe place.
But where can that be, I have searched high and low,
hopefully it will turn up soon, maybe when I
stop looking or give up and buy another piece of fabric.

project round up

I thought it was about time to take a good look
at what and how many different projects I
have on the go at the moment.
This is scary

star a day
I am hand quilting this, lovely and warm with a
flannelette backing
moving along nicely.

finally finish the binding of this beauty,
I usually love stitching down the binding but I
could not seem to make myself pick this on up.
It is finally a finish

remember this?
finally pinned ready to machine quilt

ditch stitch all the major seams

and stay stitch the edge.
trim back the edge to make it a bit easier to handle.

remember this?

home made template for big stitch quilting

farmers wife
quite a few blocks made, photo later.
This is a huge quilt so I'm thinking I might give the
border a miss and maybe think about a different block lay out.
Sound like a lot of thinking, so maybe just keep making blocks
and worry about the layout later.

still stitching these little triangle together for the folly.
Never ending.
It might be time to stitch some to the quilt center
so that I feel like I am getting somewhere

This is the last quilt top I have finished waiting to be quilted
so I have started to make a template for the quilting design.
Clams shells all over.
Measurements  have been worked out.
Sometimes i am really glad I took notice in my maths class
at high school.
I bet Mr Cracknell never thought it would be used
for patchwork and quilting

6 different quilts on the go at once.

So not like me
What to do?
Concentrate on one or two, or continue
doing a little on all?

Last night

over the side fence. through the bare
silver birches

a full moon

the sky was clear enough to see it.
